Update: Petzl is on an extended back order on the TWIN pulley. The TWIN pulley will be substituted with Yates Mountain Lite Double Blue pulley. The Mountain Lite is a sealed bearing prusik minding pulley. Features a 2.5 inch sheave (full, true 2 inch tread diameter), and certified to NFPA G 1983/2006 ed., weighing 15 oz.
Knowing which products to choose when building a confined space entry system has always been a challenge for many of our customers. That’s the reason we have re-created the system used at the Petzl confined space rescue training course our staff attended at the Petzl factory in Utah. This exclusive kit is recommended by the folks at Petzl Pro as a retrieval and access pulley system for confined space rescue.
This pulley system is ideal for areas where access to the point of entry may be constricted and you don’t really have room for the 4:1 Twin pulley systems to link together (as in the
Petzl Confined Space Access Kit ). With its single overhead pulley and line attaching directly to personnel harnesses or gear, it’s a clean system for entry.
Another benefit to this kit is the ability to have the hauling take place away from the pulley system. Properly lead, the hauling line can be handled from a location that is perhaps easier to stand or work than right around the confined space entrance. This is important in areas of factories, or silos where the immediate surrounding area of the confined space entrance won’t allow team members to work effectively.

Each piece of this confined space rescue kit is individually tested to perform to the highest standards. Trained confined space specialists will appreciate high quality of each component, and the ease in which the kit is able to be set up and then taken down

A key component of the Confined Space Rescue Kit is the
I’D S Self-Braking Descender.
The I’D S is easy to rig, and has the kind of features you’d expect from a company who has had climbing and mountain rescue at its core for more than 60 years. Among those features, the I’D S has an anti-panic mode: if the handle is pulled to aggressively, as might happen if the Descender were knocked suddenly during descent, a pivoting cam is released, the brake is engaged, and downward motion is halted until it can proceed at an even pace. The I’D S in this application acts to belay the progress achieved by the gang haul. It takes up the slack, and has the ability to lower the load should progress be impeded or the load become snagged on it’s way up to the confined space point of entry.

The
Twin is used here to create a 4:1 purchase for the gang haul. The Twin pulleys are so smooth running, that even a two-person rescue is easily achieved with this configuration. With an efficiency of 97%, the Twin pulleys do not create extra work for the pullers. Their two high-tolerance, machined sheaves run on oil-packed bearings, and the pulley case is designed to accommodate up to three carabiners for accurate positioning within your specific confined space worksite.

The purpose of the
Rescucender is to grab hold of the main line and allow the gang haulers to bring the personnel or other load up and out of the confined space without allowing the line to slip back down. The Rescucender can be deconstructed allowing it to be placed onto a line that is already under a load, or to make it easier to set up the Confined Space Rescue Kit.
The Rescue P50 A is a single pulley that is both durable and efficient. The Rescue P50 has swinging side plates that make set-up and take-down of the Confined Space Rescue Kit easier. The Rescue is rated for rescue, and can accommodate the weight of two people and gear with ease. The case and closure of the pulley easily accepts up to three carabiners to facilitate easier positioning
The
AM’D Triact-Lock Carabiner is a D-shaped carabiner that is both strong and smart. With a special spring-loaded locking mechanism, the AM’D carabiner requires an extra twist to open, and snaps shut upon release. This feature greatly reduces the chances of accidental opening when the Confined Space Rescue kit is being stored, transported, or used.
The
Vector Rope like the other pieces of this confined space entry and rescue kit, is purpose-made. Because Vector Rope is designed to flake and coil easily, it is less likely to kink and bind the pulleys or descender. Vector provides your confined space entry team with line that is more than strong enough to handle a rescue while also providing a greater chance that it will perform smoothly as it runs through the purchase and descender gear.
The optional
Petzl R41 Rope Bucket Bag is highly recommended to keep your line organized. Designed for rope access work, the Rope Bucket makes it easy to haul your line without getting it fouled. Two padded and semi-rigid handles make it ideal for moving around the worksite.
Petzl Pro products came from Petzl’s core business of climbing and mountain rescue. The techniques and the desire for light, but incredibly strong repelling and belaying gear naturally lent itself to the demanding requirements of industrial confined space entry and rescue, as well as tower climbing and other assisted climbing applications on the jobsite.
Since most confined space entry teams have to assemble retrieval systems, but most sites and stores only offer individual components with only anecdotal information on how they are put together, we thought it best to build a kit recommended by the manufacturer and offer it to our customers.
Additionally, staff members took the Petzl Confined Space Rescue training courses offered by Petzl at their factory in Utah so that we can better help our customers when they are choosing which confined space entry system to use. By taking the extra effort of ongoing training in confined space ourselves, we know we are a better resource for the companies that buy their equipment from us.
So whether the safety plan calls for downward evacuation, upward evacuation or horizontal rescue around machinery and obstacles, we are here to help you find the right arrangement of rescue supplies for your particular situation. And because our staff is not paid on commission, our only goal is to make sure you get the right equipment for your job.
Confined space work requires special training, and often involves using complex pulley systems and rescue techniques. Specialized team members who are trained to have the ability to evaluate and recommend plans for entry and retrieval must create the site-specific rescue plans.
